Seminar urges local companies to do business with eThekwini

A seminar hosted by the City tackled how the costs and ease of doing business are being improved.

FOR the city to function optimally and be able to achieve its vision of being the most caring and liveable City by 2030, it is essential that the economy is stimulated and actively creating jobs, supporting and growing local companies and attracting foreign direct investment.

To move in a direction that favours this, the City’s Economic Development and Planning Unit together with Shape Durban hosted a business seminar at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre on 21 November.

The aim of engagement titled, Doing Business in Durban, was to view the work being done by South African cities. The seminar tackled how the costs and ease of doing business are being improved. The City’s future business plans were also unpacked.

The engagement, which was attended by delegates from the public and private sector, provided attendees with vital business knowledge.

Karen Harrison from National Treasury spoke about positioning South African cities to drive for an accelerated and inclusive growth while Shirley Robinson from the World Bank gave insight on the Sub-National Doing Business Survey.

“The role of cities in stimulating economic development needs to include the understanding of the economy and the role and connectivity of spaces, building consensus amongst stakeholders around a shared vision,” said Harrison.
