Armed gang ransack Berea business

The gang forced staff members to the back of the shop and searched them for valuables.

A GANG of armed robbers held up staff at a business premises on the Berea and fled with cash and other valuables on Sunday night.

Blue Security’s Andreas Mathios said the gang of three armed suspects entered the business premises at around 6.50pm and held up the staff at gunpoint.

“The gang forced staff members to the back of the shop and searched them for valuables. They robbed staff members of a wallet containing R2 500, cigarettes and three cellphones. The gang then demanded cash from the business’s takings for the day but staff advised them that there was no cash on the premises,” Mathios said.

He said the gang ordered the staff to remain at the back of the shop while they ransacked the premises in search of valuables before fleeing the scene with several items of valuable stock from the shop. No injuries were reported.
