Talented jazz singer performs

Singer and pianist, Sanele Phakathi, will perform at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music.

THE Centre for Jazz and Popular Music presents an evening with Sanele Phakathi on Wednesday, 11 September at 6pm.

Umlazi-born Sanele is a talented contemporary jazz singer and pianist. For Sanele, music is a way of life. It has got him through hardships and he has learnt to channel those through composing music. Every composition he writes gives him hope that there’s more to look forward to in life than the current situation.

Sanele will be joined by his band, bass guitarist Dalisu Ndlazi, drummer Sbu Zondi, alto saxophonist, Leon Scharnick, trumpeter Thabo Sikhakhane, Siyalo Zulu on trombone, Nomcebo Luthuli and Zoe Masuku on vocals, and special guest Mpumi Dhlamini on alto saxophone.

The Centre for Jazz and Popular music (CJPM) is at Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus. Doors open at 5.30pm. Entrance is R80 for general admission, R50 for pensioners and R25 for students. Contact Thuli on 031 260 3385 or email Zamat1@ukzn.ac.za.
