Local authors engage with readers at book fair

The aim of the fair is to promote local writers and give them a platform to market their work.

BOOK lovers flocked to the popular Durban Book Fair at Mitchell Park in Durban on the first Sunday of August.

The aim of the fair is to promote local writers and give them a platform to market their work. At the fair, visitors heard from authors Nicole Rimensberger and Cristy Zinn who spoke to Sarita Mathur about their books, there was the launch of books Awkward Energy by Matt Vend, Clobet Valley by Terisha Govender, Insights and Impressions of a Baratnathyam Dancer by Surekha Singh, and Casbah to Candella – Those Days by Vino Govender, and a conversation with Deepak Panday, author of Kings of Durban.

The fair is held on the first Sunday of every month from 10am to 2pm, and patrons can listen to authors speak about their work, browse stalls and pick up bargains at the Booksellers of Mzansi stall. This is a partnership with the Denis Hurley Centre, where homeless people have been trained to earn a dignified living through selling “pre-loved” books.
