Solo double bassist for recital

James Oesi is truly blazing new trails for double bassists worldwide.

FRIENDS of Music Association presents James Oesi, internationally renowned solo double bassist, accompanied by pianist Andrea Vasi from the Netherlands, at its next recital on Tuesday, 23 July at Durban Jewish Centre, 44 KE Masinga (Old Fort) Road, Durban, at 7.30pm.

Oesi is truly blazing new trails for double bassists worldwide. Traditionally, the double bass is not necessarily seen as a full-fledged solo instrument. But bassist James Oesi, born in England, growing up in South Africa, studying in Russia, and now living in the Netherlands, is stretching the limits. Together with his regular duo partner, pianist Andrea Vasi, he brings a recital that is dedicated to three great sonatas.

Originally not written for the bass, but for cello or violin and piano, Oesi plays these timeless works on his contrabass in a most intimate way, with bravado and masterly perfection.

Tickets range from R100 to R120 and are available at the door.
