Learn about marine ecology

Learn how to distinguish one fish from another and how to identify common and reef fish families.

CALLING all ocean enthusiasts. Whether you are a surfer, paddler, beachcomber, fisherman, diver or enjoy just sitting and reflecting on the ocean and its creatures, the uShaka Sea World Marine Ecology Course, which starts on 4 July, could be perfect for you.

Learn how to distinguish one fish from another and how to identify common and reef fish families. Participants will also learn the classification and characteristics of invertebrates. The oceanography module covers currents, underwater geology and beach dynamics, while the biodiversity module will uncover South Africa’s marine biodiversity threats.

The course runs at the uShaka Sea World Education Centre every Thursday evening from 4 to 25 July between 6pm and 8.30pm and on Saturday 27 July between 8am and 11.30am.
