Newborn baby abandoned near Durban service station

A petrol attendant reportedly found the baby girl.

POLICE are investigating a case of child abandonment, after a new born baby, believed to be two weeks old, was found in the bushes near the Engen uShaka Service Station on Tuesday.

The baby was reportedly found by a petrol attendant.

According to Captain Nqobile Gwala, the baby was found at around 4pm and was taken to hospital for medical attention and later to a place of safety.

“A case of child abandonment is being investigated by Point SAPS and the circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated,” said Gwala.

Meanwhile, on their Facebook page the service station appealed to any one with information regarding the child to come forward.

“This beautiful baby was abandoned in the bushes, at our service station @engenushaka our attendant found her. If anyone has any information regarding this child, or has seen anything could you kindly contact us on 031 332 0858 or send us a message. The child is in a care facility temporarily,” the message read.
