Stakeholders to address issues at forum meeting

The Bulwer Safety and Urban Regeneration Forum meets on the second Tuesday of the month.

BULWER Safety and Urban Regeneration Forum (BSURF) chair, Heather Rorick, has appealed to the community to attend meetings to help in the fight against crime.

Rorick said the turnout at BSURF’s last meeting was poor, considering there are thousands of people on the Forum’s Facebook page, and urged people to attend the next meeting on 11 June.

“I urge residents to attend meetings. It’s one night a month where people can hear about what’s happening in the community regarding crime and services. We bring together people for the residents, SAPS, Metro Police, key speakers, and the councillor, who explain and discuss things in depth at meetings. People should go to meetings to hear people’s ideas and challenges. Metro are present at every meeting to help with information regarding residents’ challenges, the councillor is there to hear issues and to share her challenges. These people take time out of their busy lives to help residents,” she said.

Rorick said at the last BSURF meeting, representatives from Fidelity ADT were present to speak to residents about the company’s new reaction unit.

“This is a very interesting initiative and will definitely help in communities. Speaking also as the Umbilo CPF chair, I must say that security companies are taking bigger initiative in getting involved in communities. Fidelity ADT will be attending future meetings,” said Rorick.

She said at the meeting, Metro Police addressed the issue of noise complaints and confirmed they still carried out operations every Friday and Saturday night in the area.

Rorick said BSURF was in desperate need of patrollers with vehicles who could get involved in patrols for two hours a week.

The area covered is King Dinizulu (Berea) Road, up to Mazisi Kunene (South Ridge) Road, along to Alan Paton (McDonald) Road and down to Umbilo Road. To assist, contact Heather on 062 267 6535.

The BSURF meeting is held at Glenwood Community Church Hall, intersection of Clark and Bulwer Roads, at 6pm for 6.30pm on the second Tuesday of every month.
