Blind bowlers excel

The South African bowlers took on teams from Australia, England, Israel, New Zealand and Northern Ireland at a tournament in Israel.

LOCAL visually impaired bowlers excelled at an invitational tournament in Israel this month.

The South African bowlers took on teams from Australia, England, Israel, New Zealand and Northern Ireland at the tournament, which was made up of four categories for the blind, B1, B2, B3 and B4 – ranging from totally blind to those who have different issues with their eyesight.

David Mpungose, directed by Karin Gouws, a B1 bowler from Port Natal Blind Bowls came third in his section. Keith Orrell, directed by Daniel (Spikkels) du Plooy, a B3 bowler from Port Natal Blind Bowls and a member at Durban Collegians Bowling Club, won the Men’s Singles and B3 Mixed Pairs Competition with Princess Schroeder from the Western Cape.
