Visitors flock to scout camp open day

Visitors went to see the progress that has been made at BP Camp at Burman Bush Nature Reserve.

LOCAL scouts and people from the community attended the open day at the KZN Scouts’ Baden Powell (BP) Camp based at Burman Bush recently.

Around 125 visitors arrived on the day to see the progress that has been made at the camp, and to share in the excitement of Scouts KZN’s biggest infrastructure project since the construction of the Scouts headquarters in 2011.

Visitors had an opportunity to walk around and hear from Steve Camp, a volunteer with KZN Scouts and project manager of the camp revamp, what has been done during the first phase, and what future construction plans are planned on site.

“It was fantastic to see so many people attending from the local community as well as the scouting fraternity. It’s been over six years since scouts last made use of the facilities at BP Camp due to the vandalisation so it was great to see the excitement from scouts who should be able to start making use of the BP Camp towards the end of November. Many other scouters who attended are new to scouting and so attending the open day was the first time they had been to BP Camp, they were super impressed by what they saw and wanted to know when they could make bookings. It was a pity that our donors, Dr Michael and Dorothy Boecker, who have so generously supported this project, couldn’t be here to experience the excitement and celebrations of the rejuvenated BP Camp,” said Camp.
