BotSoc visits Tunzini garden

Pete and Brigid Turner will lead hour-long tours around the garden starting at 9.30am and 11.30am.

BOTSOC will visits the natural ‘Tunzini’ garden in Forest Hills, Kloof, on Saturday, 11 May. Homeowners, Pete and Brigid Turner, will lead hour-long tours around the garden starting at 9.30am and 11.30am.

The property was bought in 1983 for its proximity to Krantzkloof Nature Reserve, its frontage to the Ingulube stream, and for the huge Cape Ash tree. The garden was from the outset kept totally indigenous to attract as much birdlife as possible – and over 150 species have been recorded here. Part of the property has been zoned ‘special environmental’ by eThekwini Municipality due to the discovery of some rare grassland plants. Also to be seen are a pond and riverine forest.

A network of paths invites one to explore. Residents include a bushbuck family and blue duiker. Bushpig, porcupine, and various mongoose species have also been seen.

Go and enjoy this extraordinary ‘mini-nature reserve.’ Booking and pre-payment essential. Cost is R60 for BotSoc members, R70 for visitors and R35 for children under 12. Price includes tea and cake, and proceeds go to branch projects.

To book, email: botsoc-kzn@mweb.co.za or contact 031 201 5111 or 071 869 3693. Numbers are limited to 20 people per tour.
