We vote for parties, not a president, says reader

The ANC top brass controls the party's president, and, as we have seen, can recall a serving president at will.

EDITOR – I have noticed, on Facebook, and in the press, a number of pleas to vote for Ramaphosa. The logic behind these calls is that he needs support to bring in reforms and stop corruption and send the guilty to prison, etc.

I would point out to these misguided, but probably well-meaning people, that this is not America.

We do not vote for a president; we vote for parties!

The ANC top brass controls the party’s president, and, as we have seen, can recall a serving president at will – Mbeki, Zuma.

So, when you cast your vote, remember that Jessie Duarte, Ace Magashule, Paul Mashatile, David Mabuza and Gwede Mantashe – all of whom are tainted, if not worse – can put an end to any and all of Ramaphosa’s “reforms” whenever they want.
