Cricket festival showcases young talent

Penzance Primary and Glenwood Prep played the final.

THE annual Glenwood High School U13 Cricket Festival took take place at the school on 22 and 23 February.

Sixteen teams from in and around the greater Durban area played in the festival, including local schools Manor Gardens Primary and Penzance Primary. The festival took on the 20/20 format.

Three rounds were played on Friday, 22 February and on Saturday, 23 February the play-offs, semi-finals and finals took place.

The semi-finals was between Glenwood Prep and RPC and the other semi-final between Penzance and Curro Hillcrest.

Penzance Primary and Glenwood Prep played the final, with Glenwood Prep winning by seven wickets. The three players who received awards for their overall talent and potential were Best Batsman of the Festival, Seth Simpson from Penzance Primary who made 328 runs, Bowler of the Festival, Bayanda Majola from Glenwood Prep who took seven wickets and Best All Rounder of the Festival, Llewellyn Sutherland from Curro Hillcrest.

Travel and Sport chose a Glenwood U13 Cricket Festival Team which will tour to Sri Lanka from 14 December. The festival team will tour to Colombo, Kandy and Waskaduwa, which are private cricket schools. The team will play nine matches of which five are T20s and four are 40 over games.
