Police recover R2m in stolen goods in Durban

Stolen goods were recovered from a mini supermarket in the Durban CBD and another shop nearby.

IN A joint operation between Metro Police and SAPS on Friday, thousands of branded products totalling approximately R2-million were confiscated and two foreign nationals arrested.

According to Metro Police’s Senior Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad members of the syndicate would allegedly break into cargo containers transported to Johannesburg from Durban Harbour.

He said the suspects would break into the containers while trucks were parked at truck stops and drivers were asleep.

Police investigations lead them to KwaMashu where the two men from Bangladesh, were arrested.  Stolen goods were recovered from a mini supermarket in the Durban CBD and another shop nearby, with police discovering more goods stashed behind the shops.

The branded goods included drills, angle grinders, baby formula and coffee. Sewpersad said the goods were being sold at less than the original value. Further police investigations are still underway.
