Game team swims for charity

After the 2019 Midmar Mile, Game donated R133 000 to The Community Chest on behalf of the 133 swimmers who crossed the dam.

A RECORD 133 Game team members donned their signature pink and black swimming costumes and struck out across Midmar Dam at the weekend to raise funds for charity.

Game Stores Swimming Team over the past 17 years has raised more than R2.3 million, which is donated to Durban-based Community Chest – a non-profit organisation that supports over 60 local welfare organisations.

Not to be outdone by their donors, the Community Chest also fields a team of swimmers to enter the event.

Community Chest has honoured the company with the “Top Corporate Donor” Award for the last seven years in a row, in recognition of Game’s ongoing loyal support for the charity.

“Game’s annual participation in the Midmar Mile swim event has presented many of our team members personal goals they initially didn’t believe were possible, and all for a great cause. In several cases, our team members who swam the mile across the dam had to first learn to swim before embarking on a gruelling training programme before the race. It is a daunting prospect to swim a whole mile across a dam, especially for someone who only just learned to swim. We really admire all our team members who participate,” said Game Marketing Executive Terry Dale.
