Musgrave Centre confirms bomb scare

An anonymous call was received and security protocols were immediately actioned.

MUSGRAVE Centre management has confirmed a bomb scare at the centre on Monday, 21 January.

Marketing manager, Adeela Haffejee said an anonymous call was received and security protocols were immediately actioned.

“Musgrave Centre places utmost priority on the safety of our shoppers and tenants. Once the call was received, the parking area was cordoned off to ensure safety,” she said.

Haffejee said the area was then swept by SAPS, the Bomb Disposal Unit and Dog Unit which confirmed there were no devices found and authorised the parking area to be re-opened.

“We feel concerned that our centre has been the target of a malicious prank call that caused undue distress to the shoppers and tenants alike. The continued vigilance of our dedicated on-site team ensured a swift response to this unfortunate incident. The centre has a security team on-site 24 hours a day, with the centre actively monitored by CCTV,” she said.

She said the centre is linked to armed response and has fostered relations with SAPS for frequent visits to the centre to ensure the safety of shoppers at all times.
