Security officers apprehend thieves

Men found breaking into businesses were arrested by Blue Security armed response officers.

ARMED response officers arrested suspects in separate incidents at the weekend.

Blue Security’s Andreas Mathios said a truck driver flagged down one of the company’s officers in Spradbrow Road to alert him to an alleged theft incident in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

“The truck driver reported that he had spotted two suspects, who had jumped out of a property in Spradbrow Road, loading goods into a green wheelie bin which they then pushed in the direction of Sydney Road. The officer called for backup and tracked the suspects to the corner of Sydney Road and Alan Paton Road,” Mathios said.

Mathios said the officer and his backup colleague approached the suspects and searched the wheelie bin. “They found an air-conditioning compressor inside the bin. The suspects were unable to explain how they had obtained the compressor. The Umbilo SAPS attended the scene and while they were inspecting the compressor one of the suspects managed to flee into the nearby canal. One of our officers apprehend the second suspect who was taken to the Umbilo police station for further questioning,” Mathios said. The air-conditioning compressor was left at the police station, Mathios said.

In a second incident in Maydon Wharf, an officer arrested a suspect who had broken into a warehouse through the roof at around 9.20am on Sunday.

“An on site security guard pressed a panic button and our officer responded to the scene and arrested the suspect. He was handed over to Maydon Wharf SAPS,” Mathios said.
