Hard work pays off for Class of 2018

Matriculants from local private and government schools excelled in their final examinations.

THERE were whoops of delights, hugs galore and smiles aplenty as local matrics collected their final exam marks at school centres last week.

Independent Examinations Board (IEB) learners’ matric results revealed an impressive 98.92 per cent pass rate, up from 98.76 per cent in 2017.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga announced that the class of 2018 had achieved an overall pass rate of 78.2 per cent. She said the pass rate was an improvement on the previous year where a 75.1 per cent pass rate had been achieved. She added that this was the eight consecutive year that the matric pass rate had passed the 70 per cent mark.
