East Coast outplay Quins

Harlequins Cricket Club's first team lost to East Coast in a match on Sunday.

UMBILO Harlequins Cricket Club’s first team took on East Coast at Phoenix Northcroft on Sunday, 18 November.

Preceding rain had provided some vigour to a well grassed wicket and the Harlequins team was disadvantaged by having to bat in the morning session when the pitch was at its liveliest. Both openers were removed by the sixth over. A steadfast innings by number three batsman Jordan Byran saw him through to a top score of 37 runs. Momadthala Motala scored a feisty 32, Fayaz Safri got 19 runs and Yousuf Godil was undefeated with 29 runs, when the last wicket fell in the 36th over. Quins made 156 runs.

A superb spell of strike bowling was delivered by Quins’ Yousuf Godil who captured five wickets for 48 runs in nine overs, supported by Kevin Kettle who had three catches dropped off his bowling taking two actual wickets for 36 runs in nine overs, and an economical spell of four overs for eight runs by medium pacer Faiyas Safri.

East Coast required 32 runs in six overs with no wickets to spare, however the team won by virtue of a superior run rate, despite being outplayed in almost every aspect of the match by Quins.
