Durban SAPS warns of car scams

Police urged the public to be vigilant during this time of the year regarding vehicles advertised for sale.

DURBAN Central SAPS appeals to the community to be vigilant when dealing with vehicles advertised for sale.

“Do not pay for a vehicle that you have seen in an advertisement if you have not viewed the actual vehicle.”

“Verify if a salesman is employed by the garage in the advertisement, and do not transfer any money prior to any documentation being produced,” said Const Zanele Khomo from Durban Central.

This comes after a man who wanted to buy a vehicle in Durban was hijacked of the motor vehicle at the weekend.

“The man met someone believed to be a seller and made a payment with the purpose of buying a vehicle that was advertised.”

“After payment was received, the victim was test driving the vehicle with the man who posed as a seller. He was then threatened with a firearm and the man drove away with the motor vehicle the victim had paid for, as well as his money,” said Khomo.
