DUE to proactive planning and the adequate deployment of police officers at the Moses Mabhida Stadium during the Telkom Knockout Cup competition at the weekend, a total of seven suspects were arrested for various crimes.
According to Const Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS, there were no serious incidents reported due to the ample presence of police officers and security personnel.
All seven suspects appeared at the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday, facing charges of illegal selling of tickets, theft and pitch invasion.

“On Saturday, 3 November, the first four suspects were arrested. Two of them were caught selling fake tickets, one suspect was arrested for pitch invasion, while the fourth suspect was arrested for stealing alcohol from a bar at the stadium. On Sunday a further three suspects were arrested for selling fake tickets at the stadium. None of the suspects arrested for illegal selling of tickets and pitch invasion were granted bail. They will be back in court for formal bail application,” said Khomo.
She said the police were appealing to the community not to purchase fake tickets as it could lead to overcrowding at the stadiums.
“Police will be on high alert and ensure a zero-tolerance approach in dealing with criminal elements at our sports stadiums,” she said.
