Historic monument unveiling for Mitchell Park
The official unveiling of the busts of King Goodwill Zwelithini, Nelson Mandela and the Sivananda Peace Pillar will be on 8 November.
KING Goodwill Zwelithini will officially unveil a historical monument at Mitchell Park on Thursday, 8 November at 11am.
The monument, which includes busts of King Goodwill Zwelithini, Nelson Mandela and the Sivananda Peace Pillar, is a project which was the initiative of world renowned philanthropist, humanitarian and businessman Ishwar Ramlutchman.
This is the first time bronze busts of Zwelithini and Mandela have been installed in a public place together globally, highlighting their contribution towards peace and stability in South Africa.
“I have been associated with the Zulu monarch and the Zulu nation since the age of 20.”
“I was touched by the simplicity and the contribution of His Majesty and Dr Nelson Mandela to society and decided to honour them by commissioning this monument of peace in honour of them. The Zulu monarch has contributed tremendously to nation building in South Africa,” said Ishwar Ramlutchman.

A plaque will be installed as part of the monument includes the history of the Indian indentured labourers in South Africa, the history of the first Coloureds in South Africa, the history of the Boers/Afrikaaners in South Africa, the preamble of the Constitution, the life and times of King Goodwill Zwelithini and the life and times of Nelson Mandela, which depicts a South African Rainbow Nation.
“I am delighted that Ishwar Ramlutchman has installed the Sivananda Peace Pillar and a bronze bust of myself in Mitchell Park. Over the years we have witnessed several monuments being built in honour of my people.”

This historic monument is supported by the provincial heritage agency AMAFA. This monument will serve as a symbol of reconciliation, tolerance and will also highlight the heritage of the pioneers, the courage and commitment of the freedom fighters, the wisdom, passion, and determination of the visionaries of a non-racial and a democratic South Africa.
