A final total of R90 000 was raised for The Ernie Els Centre for Autism South Africa.

A TOTAL of R90 000 was raised for The Ernie Els Foundation for Autism in South Africa at the annual Hilton Durban Golf Cup held at the Durban Country Club.

The first prize of 100, 000 Hilton Honors points, equivalent to three-nights’ stay anywhere in the world, was won by Errol Stewart. Brendan Cavanaugh and Andre Joubert came in at second and third place respectively. Along with the announcement of the winners for the day, two fundraising auctions added to the fun at the prize-giving dinner which was hosted at Big Easy Winebar and Grill Durban by Ernie Els. Players were treated to a special menu created by head chef Noel Kanyemba and carefully paired with a selection of Ernie Els Wines.

The ‘by invitation only’ event saw 56 players step up to the tee, with prominent Durban business people rubbing shoulders with some of Durban’s top sporting legends. Rugby was represented by former Sharks and Springbok caps, Odwa Ndungane, Keegan Daniel, Stefan Terblanche, Andre Joubert and Butch James. Proteas legend, Pat Symcox was joined by current Proteas and Dolphins Cricket player, Andile Phehlukwayo and South African tennis legend Kevin Curren was also in attendance. VIP guests included Jan van der Putten, vice-president Africa and Indian Ocean Hilton Worldwide, and Nico van Rensburg, business development manager of the Ernie Els Group.

The two auctions held on the evening and the “Score for Autism” spot penalty fines on the golf course helped raise a final total of R90 000 for The Ernie Els Centre for Autism South Africa which was founded in 2009 by Ernie and his wife Liezel after their son was diagnosed as being profoundly autistic.
