Brave mavericks set tough challenge for ‘Shova

#ShovaForHope - Men are cycling against injustice.

LOCAL charities are encouraging the community to get behind nine brave mavericks who will tackle the 106km Amashova against the injustice of abused and vulnerable children by pledging emotional and financial support.

Reports of the devastatingly abuse of a family of children taken in recently by Operation Bobby Bear prompted the cyclists who aim to raise funds to contribute to supply the five traumatised children with healthy food for the table every day.

Wade Barlett of Expand a Sign and the company’s current cycling champion challenged himself and three friends, Peter McCullough, Tyron Govender and Dean Edwards to tackle the gruelling 106km route on Quebeka bikes which weign 25kg each and have no gears and only a back brake, to raise awarenss not only for the Bobby Bear children, but the children at iThema Lethu, an NGO that is equally close to the hearts of staff at the company.

iThembu Lethu runs two transition homes for vulnerable and abandoned newborn to three year old babies. The key purpose is to restore their hope and destiny through reunification and adoption into permanent forever families.

Barlett hopes to raise R100 000 for both charties.

Joining them and cycling in iThemba Lethu colours is Bruce Gibson, aka the Biking Viking and his wild band of fervent fathers David Wilson, Giovani Gallus, Jon Shephard and Ethan van der Linde.
