Vote for local comedian

Kwanda Radebe has been nominated at the 2018 Annual Savanna Comics Choice awards in the Audience Choice Category.

DURBAN-BASED comedian Kwanda Radebe has been nominated at the 2018 Annual Savanna Comics Choice awards in the Audience Choice Category where audiences can vote via SMS for their favourite comedian.

Kwanda is the only KZN comedian nominated in this category and is encouraging the public to cast their votes in support of him. Voting closes on 31 August.

“I feel very honored to be the first KZN-based comedian to be nominated in this category, that alone is a huge achievement,” said Kwanda regarding the nomination.

Kwanda, (24), is definitely a superstar in the making. He was born in Ixopo and after matriculating he permanently migrated to the city of Durban to enroll for tertiary education at UKZN, where he holds a Bachelors Degree in Geography and Environmental Management and is currently studying towards a master’s degree in Population and Statistics.

Kwanda knew from day one that when he got to Durban he would pursue a career in comedy, and he broke onto the Durban comedy scene like a wrecking ball when he became the first ever winner of the Durban Young Guns Comedy Showdown in 2015.

Kwanda has a tiny body frame but has an enormous stage presence. He has performed on the biggest comedy stages with the biggest names in the comedy game which includes shows like Durban Summer Comedy Festival, Newcomers (Soweto Theatre), Bat Centre and iZulu Theatre, to name a few. Kwanda’s jokes are smart, well thought out and often provocative but mostly hilarious.

In 2016 Kwanda made his television debut on DSTV channel VUZU amp and was followed by other TV appearances on DSTV Mzansi Magic and VUZU. He has performed all over South Africa at clubs and corporate events in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria and Durban. He has also shared the stage with comedy heavy weights such as Kagiso Lediga, Loyiso Gola, John Vlismas, Carvin Goldstone and Simphiwe Shembe.

He proved to be a natural performer when he received accreditation from industry leaders for his acting role in an online video that went viral and accumulated more than a quarter of a million views across all social networks and online platforms in 2017. That year he was once again crowned winner of a competition that featured a selected 20 of KZN’s brightest upcoming comedians, the cream of the crop.

Kagiso was then selected by South African comedy legend Curt Schoonrad to perform at the Cape Town Comedy Club, which was named as one the Top 10 Comedy Clubs in the world, alongside mentor and comedy pal Carvin H Goldstone. He has also been listed number one on the Sunday Times Top 10 list of young South Africans set to take over the world.

Kwanda is undoubtedly the next big thing in South African comedy and the sky is the limit.

Vote for Kwanda by SMSing the unique code 24635 to the number 45757. People can vote up to 50 times per sim card and each SMS costs R1.50.
