Swimmers represent SA

Artistic swimming is a difficult sport that requires endurance, flexibility, strength, mental strength, and a lot of determination.

THREE local artistic swimmers have jetted off to Seville, Spain to represent South Africa in the Comen Cup.

At the nationals held in Cape Town in December Jess McCarthy, Mia Blythe and Lathitha Ntlahla were selected for the South African 13-15 age group artistic swimming team and will be swimming a team event, combo event and a duet. They were three of the nine strong team of girls selected from across the country for the team.

Artistic swimming (formerly known as synchronised swimming) is a sport that is often misunderstood. It is a difficult sport that requires endurance, flexibility, strength, mental strength, and a lot of determination. The girls have trained flat out since their initial selection in December and have spent most of the school holiday in the pool preparing.

The team had their final four-day training camp at Northwood School before jetting off to Spain on Monday night.
