Umbilo SAPS made arrests for various crimes this week.

Murder investigation underway

A WOMAN was arrested for murder in Umbilo on 27 June.

Capt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS said at around 8pm on 27 June, an Umbilo patrol vehicle came across a woman’s body in Umbilo Road.

“The woman had several stab wounds on her neck. An ambulance certified the woman dead at the scene. The deceased, 47 years of age, was stabbed by a 23-year-old woman. It is alleged that the two women are prostitutes and were fighting over a client. The suspect was arrested and police are investigating a case of murder,” she said.

Four arrested for possession of firearm

FOUR men were arrested for business robbery, unlawful possession of live ammunition and the possession of an unlicensed firearm following an armed robbery in Umbilo on 10 Juy.

Capt Makaula said at around 9am, four armed men walked into a store on Bartle Road, Umbilo and demanded cash, cigarettes and cellphones. They got away in a grey Nissan Almera which allegedly belonged to an elderly couple in Chesterville.

“According to the couple, during the time of the robbery, their vehicle was with a mechanic near Dalton Hostel in Umbilo. Umbilo SAPS tracked the vehicle to the mechanic and two suspects were arrested. The two suspects led the police to two other suspects in Chesterville,” she said.

All four suspects were detained and police are investigating cases of business robbery, unlawful possession of live ammunition and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Burglar nabbed by police

A MAN was arrested for business burglary at Cash Crusaders store in Glenwood on 11 July.

Capt Makaula said the manager of the store was alerted by a security company that the alarm had gone off at the business.

“Umbilo SAPS attended to the complaint and the suspect was arrested. Police are investigating a case of burglary business and the suspect is due to appear in the Durban Magistrate court,” said Makaula.
