Search on for owner of painting

"I would like to get hold of this family and return this painting to them."

A BEAUTIFUL old painting of a family was found in the basement of a property demolished in Alpha Crescent, Umbilo, recently.

Elsabe Botha said the company where she works was extending, and bought a neighbouring property two years ago. When the house on the property was demolished a few months ago, the painting of a family, done in 1995, was found in the basement.

“When I saw the painting I thought it was too nice to throw on the rubbish dump. I would like to get hold of the family and return this to them. I posted the painting on Facebook and other groups hoping someone would recognise the family, or face recognition would pick something up, but I haven’t had any luck,” she said.

Years ago, before the area in Umbilo was zoned industrial, it was a thriving residential area. “The only other original resident living in the road, an elderly woman who may have been able to give us some information, died in December. This painting must have belonged to one of the families living in the house when it was a residential area. The children in the painting would be adults now, but I’m hoping someone recognises them,” she said.

If anyone has any information on this family, they should email Elsabe on elsabe.botha@macdon.co.za.
