Golfers urged to support Tafta Golf Challenge

The Tafta tournament, which will be a 4-ball format.

GOLF enthusiast , Glenda Austin is calling on all golf players and especially female golfers, to step up in support of the Association for the Aged’s (Tafta) 60th anniversary commemorative Golf Challenge event, taking place at the Durban Country Club on 10 May 2018. Austin, who will lead an all-male team and is the only female participant in this year’s event, says that as a mother, and hopefully, one day grandmother, she is in full support of the Tafta Meals on Wheels project that the Golf Day proceeds will benefit.

“Ageing is inevitable and so many families are faced with caring for an ageing family member. Services like Meals on Wheels may not be a reality for ourselves personally right now in our lives, but when we are faced with this responsibility, isn’t it comforting to know there is an organisation like Tafta to support our elders and provide care when the time comes. It is the responsibility of organisations to get involved in any possible way, even at a small scale to support a cause as worthy as this one. Bidvest McCarthy Toyota Durban North gets involved in a lot of community projects and we will continue to support Tafta with other great fundraising initiatives during their anniversary year,” Austin.

The Tafta tournament, which will be a 4-ball format, tees off at 11am and entrance fees at R1000 a player include a goodie bag, lunch, green fees, cart fees, as well as an exciting end to the evening with an auction and live entertainment at dinner. Prizes for the event this year promises to be exciting with sponsors helping to make Tafta’s 60th birthday event memorable for its golfing supporters. Included in the prize line-up are 10 place prizes, a longest drive prize, a closest to pin prize, a lucky draw and more.

All proceeds for this year’s event will once again go towards Tafta’s hot meal provision service; the Meals on Wheels programme. Tafta’s Income Development, Marketing and Public Relations Manager Gail Samuels said: “Escalating food prices have impacted on the cost of Tafta’s provision of the Meals and Wheels project and we are looking to communities and corporates to help us extend our reach to elders who are constantly in need of our care by participating at the golf event or through sponsorship.”
