Cycle for the CHOC Cow herd

The Cows invite riders to join their Tour Durban 'herd'.

WITH another big field of serious and social cyclists entered for the aQuellé Tour Durban presented by Bridge Fund Managers on Sunday 29 April, The Cows are planning to make their mark on the 25th anniversary of the iconic Durban race and are inviting anyone sharing the passion for cycling and supporting charities to join them on the day, either on the road or lending a helping hand.

“We love getting involved with the aQuellé Tour Durban because they have been so good to us over the years. It is an event heavily centred around charity and its support for the Domino Foundation, so we really encourage as many people as possible to ride it,” said convener of The Cows in KZN Iris Varty, who will be riding the 100km race on a tandem with her daughter Lauren.

The Cows will man the water point on the M4 near the Hypermarket.

The race has reserved a special batch in the 45km Fun Ride for supporters of The Cows, who can nominate to start in this batch in the online entry process via Cycle Events.

“The 45km Fun Ride is such a do-able race. We start together and almost all of us stay together on the road, and the humour and banter along the way is fantastic,” said Varty.

The Cows will also run the fun Kids Race at the Moses Mabhida People Park track at 11am on race day, aimed at the children under ten years of age.

Entry is free and kids are welcome to ride on any bike or trike, accompanied by their parents if needed. They will each get a Hubertos ice cream and an aQuellé cold drink at their own dedicated water station.

She added that every year high school pupils looking for community service hours get involved with The Cows at the aQuellé Tour Durban, either helping at a water point or helping at the kids race, and The Cows will once again accommodate as many scholars looking to help as possible.

The aQuellé Tour Durban, presented by Bridge Fund Managers, is on Sunday 29 April. Visit: www.tourdurban.co.za.
