WATCH: Sand replenishing operation gets underway

The City’s Deputy Head: Coastal, Stormwater and Catchment Management, Randeer Kasserchun said sand from south of the harbour is dredged and transferred to Durban central beaches through sand pumping operations.

SAND replenishing operations were well underway this morning on North Beach as the city scrambles to counteract extreme soil erosion of Durban beaches.

Sections of North Beach, Dairy Beach, Country Club and Battery Beach were closed off from , Friday, 20 April, to allow for sand pumping operations aimed at replenishing sand on the affected beaches.

No bathing and beach use is allowed in the sections of beaches that are closed off while sand replenishment activities are under way. It is expected that this will take about four week.
