Man killed, five ejected in horror CBD crash

The occupants were ejected from the vehicle and found lying on the opposite side of the road.

A man was killed and five others suffered serious to critical injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a pole around 5am this morning at the corner of Dorothy Nyembe (Gardiner) and Dr Pixley Ka Seme (West) Streets.

Garrith Jamieson of Rescue Care paramedics described the scene as “carnage” and said more resources and advanced life paramedics were called for immediately.

“A single vehicle carrying six occupants somehow lost control and collided into a pole. Most of the people at the back were ejected from the vehicle and found lying on the opposite side of Dr Pixley kaSeme Street.  Two of the passengers had suffered critical injuries and were placed on manual ventilators at the scene before being rushed to hospital,” he said. Three others were in a serious condition and also transported to hospital.

One man, who is believed to have been a passenger had been ejected from the vehicle  and was critical when advanced life paramedics reached him. They worked to stabilise the man but sadly he went into cardiac arrest and despite their efforts to resuscitate him he died. He was declared deceased at the scene.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
