Help needed by Cats of Durban

If you would like to give back to your community, or if you have cats in your area and you would like to help them, contact Cats of Durban.

WHEN the economy suffers and ordinary people start to feel the pinch, normally the first expense to be re-considered is looking after your pet.

As a result, animal welfare organisation Cats of Durban, which sterilises stray and feral cats, is overwhelmed with dumped and abandoned cats – usually after they have had a litter of kittens.

“We get lumped with an unwanted cat and her unwanted kittens, not to mention being inundated with cats and kittens needing homes. We need help,” said Niki Moore from Cats of Durban.

She said the organisation is in need of trappers and transporters most of all, but anyone can help.

“We also need kitten fosters, rescuers, fundraisers and educators. Our job is to prevent animal abuse through the sterilisation of stray and feral cats. Cat overpopulation is a global problem, and unwanted cats and kittens face a lifetime of hardship, cruelty and abuse. We try to address the issue of unwanted cats in a humane manner, through Trap, Sterilise, Release. We also educate people about the beneficial role that cats play in our urban environment,” said Niki.

If you would like to give back to your community, or if you have cats in your area and you would like to help them, contact Cats of Durban.
