Double bill at Friends recital

Christopher Duigan and Aristide du Plessis present A Double Bill at Durban Jewish Centre.

FRIENDS of Music Association in collaboration with Music Revival present A Double Bill, featuring Christopher Duigan and Aristide du Plessis, on Tuesday, 10 April at Durban Jewish Centre, 44 KE Masinga (Old Fort) Road, Durban at 7.30pm.

At the recital, pianist Duigan plays Gershwin and cellist du Plessis plays Rachmaninoff.

Duigan is one of South Africa’s leading concert pianists. He was described as a ‘South African piano icon’ and ‘national musical treasure’ by the Classic Feel magazine. He has performed extensively with all leading South African orchestras. In recital he has developed a popular following through his innovative presentation and programming of a broad and eclectic taste in music. Duigan is a Steinway Artist.

Du Plessis was born in Durban in 1989. He has established a reputation as one of South Africa’s leading cellists. He has performed in some of the world’s most renowned concert halls ranging from the Zürich Tonhalle and the Berliner Philharmonie. As a soloist, he has performed with all the country’s major orchestras. He is currently Co-Principal Cellist with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra.

Their programme includes George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, The Gershwin Songbook (18 Song Transcriptions) Three Preludes, Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Sonata for Cello and Piano Op 19, Caccini and Piazzolla’s Ave Maria and Tchaikovsky’s Pezzo Capricioso.

Tickets are R100 for members, R120 for visitors and R20 for students and orchestral members. Tickets are available at the door. Contact 071 505 1021.
