Quins win final league clash

Umbilo Harlequins Cricket Club beat Verulam by one wicket in a match on Sunday.

Umbilo Harlequins Cricket Club’s first team played out its final stream one Challenge League match for the current season against Verulam at Harlequins on Sunday.

Verulam was able to tally 148 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 39 overs. Fast bowler Cyril Mthimkhulu and medium pacer Faiyas Safri performed admirably to capture two wickets each.

Some rash execution of strokes by three Quins’ specialist batsmen saw their own demise without adding real value to the team’s objective, however, it was Andrea Dal Moro’s top order innings of 20 runs, all-rounder extraordinaire Faiyas Safri who made an exquisite middle order contribution of 32 runs and a very responsible innings by the captain Yusuf Abdulla at number eight who was undefeated with 24 runs, which took Quins through to a victory by one wicket with just one over remaining.
