UKZN students found with 21 kilos of dagga

The drugs recovered in the raid in Umbilo are worth R120 000.

TWO students from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) at Howard campus were arrested last week for dealing in dagga.

The two aged between 18 and 23 were found in possession of 21kg of dagga, with a street value of R120 000. Lieutenant Colonel Stanley Perumal, Umbilo SAPS Visible Policing Commander, said it was joint operation conducted by the Umbilo SAPS, Provincial organised crime, Shongweni K9 unit and Metro Police.

“It was an undercover operation. We cannot divulge the details but what i can say is that, police entered the campus at around 10 in the morning. The suspects were approached by the police, searched and the drugs were found in their possession. Both suspects were brought in and charged for dealing in dagga. They are expected to appear in court,” he said.
