Man charged for possession of firearm and ammunition

Police arrested and charged a man for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of dagga.

A MAN was arrested and charged for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of dagga in Morningside on 12 March.

According to Capt Poobalan Naidoo from Berea SAPS, at around 8.30pm police were patrolling at the intersection of Rosetta and Lillian Ngoyi (Windermere) Roads when they noticed a white Hyundai motor vehicle with no registration plates and four occupants parked in the road.

“Two men got out of the back of the vehicle, both of them armed, and proceeded to a VW Polo parked nearby. When the driver of the Polo noticed the suspects approaching he drove off. The police approached the men and they ran towards their vehicle,” said Naidoo.

One of the men managed to get back into the vehicle, however the other man continued running.
