Sisters celebrate birthday milestone

Friends and family of the nonagenarian held a small lunch in celebration of her milestone.

CAISTER Lodge Retirement Village resident, Barbara Lipschitz, celebrated her 96th birthday on Saturday. Friends and family of the nonagenarian held a small lunch in celebration of her milestone birthday. An excited Lipschitz said she was very happy to have her friends and family present at her birthday and jokingly questioned whether it was necessary to have the Berea Mail covering her birthday celebrations. “I am very happy to have everyone here with me, thanks to everyone who made this day possible,” she said.

Among those who were in attendance, was Lipschitz’s elder sister Adele who is 103 years old. Adele has become a national celebrity in her country Israel and says she really does not like her newfound celebrity status.

“I did nothing to deserve being a celebrity, but I guess it is because I am old. I have been very well treated all my life and nothing has changed since becoming a celebrity. To be honest, I really don’t like the celebrity status. My secret to long life is hard work and the wonderful children I have and doing interesting things, but because I am now old I can no longer do them very easily. Everybody spoils me and I love it. I get up as late as I can, usually at about 8 in the morning and do my long walks every day,” said Adele.
