Lace up your running shoes for Stella Royal

The Stella Royal 25km road race will be on 21 March.

STELLA Athletics Club will host its annual Stella Royal 25km and 10km road race on Wednesday, 21 March.

This race has been contested annually since 1975 with the winners over the years generally being international or provincial athletes. Stella Royal is regularly voted the best in its class in KZN and the club is working extremely hard to make it the premier race in KZN. Historically more than 1 800 athletes attend the event.

The race is an undulating course run through the suburbs of Glenwood and Umbilo. There is a 10km run and walk as well as a 25km race for those wanting a longer run. The club is inviting people from the community to take on the race this year.

Entry is either manual at Stella Athletics club the day before the run (Tuesday, 20 March between 4pm and 8pm) or at Durban Runner stores (entries close Friday 16 March) or online at www.eventtiming.co.za (entries close Friday 16 March).

There are prizes for all the winners in the various categories and many lucky draw prizes from sponsors and restaurants in the Glenwood area.

“We are proud that our sports club has been in existence since 1902. The athletics section has approximately 250 members and we are known throughout KZN as a club that is serious about the development of previously disadvantaged athletes. We currently provide athletics kit and running shoes or some form of assistance to approximately 70 athletes. Any profit derived from this race is used to provide this kit, pay for athletes’ transport to important races and race entry fees,” said Pat Freeman from Stella Athletics.
