EDITOR – Delays in issue of certificates leaves student in employment limbo

The Management and Staff of the Umbilo Private Technical College situated at 626 Umbilo Road, Congella, would like to make use of the opportunity to firstly thank the Berea Mail reporter who reported objectively and to the point on the above matter.

The reporter took the trouble to listen to the student, contact the College and the Department of Higher Education and Training before penning the article.

Hopefully this will serve as an indicator to members of the public who so easily threaten with newspaper reports or legal action against TVET Colleges when the Department of Higher Education and Training official, Mr Mabotha, confirmed the problems which we tell candidates but they do not believe the TVET Colleges’ staff.

We have now decided to give candidates a College letter stating that the candidate meets the requirements for the issuing of a four subject certificate by the Department of Higher Education and Training stating that “in due course depending on the solving of the backlog and printing problems.”

The Training Centres which offer Trade testing and the Setas have accepted this confirmation letter from the college and candidates may apply for the sitting of their trade tests.
