Man arrested for driving stolen vehicle

A man has been arrested for being in possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle in Umbilo.

UMBILO SAPS arrested suspects involved in a hijacking in the area at 7am on Tuesday, 5 December.

According to Capt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, a white Audi A1 was stopped and searched at the intersection of Cedar and Umbilo Roads.

Police found the car registration was false.

“The driver, a 32-year-old man, said he had bought the vehicle on Gumtree. According to our dockets, the vehicle had been hijacked in February in Pinetown. The victim was shot. The man was arrested and police are investigating a case of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle,” said Makaula.

Umbilo SAPS is investigating business burglaries that took place on Tuesday morning in Davenport Centre.

“Thirteen armed men in three cars, a BMW 3 series, a dark blue Toyota Corolla and a blue VW Polo, arrived at the centre and broke into a number of shops,” said Makaula.
