Tafta trail run a success

Tafta's train run attracted more than 450 entries this year.

THE Association of the Aged (Tafta) extends its appreciation to each individual who participated in the 2017 Trail Run event held on Sunday, 19 November.

“It was a fantastic morning, made all the more special by the fabulous turnout. The donations of toiletries for our elderly folk went above and beyond what we had hoped for. Each and every person who participated made an invaluable contribution to helping us raise awareness and meet the costs of caring for our vulnerable and frail elderly residents,” said Gail Samuels, divisional manager of Income Development, Marketing and Public Relations.

The first male to cross the 8km finish line was, Claude Eksteen followed by James Meredith in second place and Jeff Maingard in third.

In the 8km female’s category, Trish Eksteen topped the ladies, with Danella Arrigo in second place and Catherine Robertson third.

Preneel Nundkumar topped the 4km male category with Daniel Smith in second place and Brett Challenor in third place, while the female category saw Jenna Challenor finish in first place followed by her daughter Rylee-kai Challenor and Emily Macquet finishing third.

All proceeds from the trail run contribute towards providing a three course meal to Tafta elders during the festive period.

Supporters who were unable to attend the Trail Run event still have a chance to sponsor one or more of Tafta residents a hearty Christmas lunch. With help from the community they will enjoy a traditional Christmas spread amid lively chatter, laughter and music and experience that wonderful feeling of belonging. A donation of R95 will make an elder’s Christmas lunch a reality. Cost for a couple is R190. Sponsor a table of four, six or 10 with a contribution of R380, R570 or R950.

“This December we hope to host a total of 1800 elderly men and women across all Tafta establishments and wellness centres in Durban. But we can’t do it without your generous help,” added Samuels.
