Alternative DJ hosts fundraiser

DJ Helgé will host Re-Play at In10sity Night Club on Saturday.

DJ Helgé will host Re-Play at In10sity Night Club, 90 Old Main Road, Botha’s Hill, on Saturday, 30 September from 8.30pm to 5am.

Helgé needs very little introduction to the alternative scene in Durban.

He was the founding DJ at Durban’s premier club Faces, DJ’ing alternative music at the top floor, where he also introduced theatre, fashion shows into the night club scene.

Once Faces closed its doors in 1986, Helgé began his own alternative dance club ventures DJ’ing at the Community Arts Workshop (CAW) as Play (’87/88), then at 330 on Friday nights (’89/91) and at the Berea Inn on a Tuesday night until ’96.

Thereafter he DJ’d at various parties, rewinds, and replays, most recently at Origin nightclub in May and November of 2016.

Re-Play will form part of a fundraiser, as Helgé’s iMac was stolen three months ago in a housebreaking. He feels that 10 years of his brain, gut and soul, not to mention a slice of South African artistic history, has been erased. There was creative work on that machine that can never be replaced.

Doors open at 8.30pm and entrance is R100.
