Audition for poetry festival

Poets are encouraged to audition for this year's Poetry Africa Festival.

THE Centre for Creative Arts (University of KwaZulu-Natal) calls out to the Durban’s emerging poets to take part in the 21st Poetry Africa Festival as Prelude Poets.

Poetry Africa Festival, now in its 21st edition, takes place from 16 to 21 October. The festival brings together some of the world’s finest poets and musicians to Durban, with artists from the African continent and beyond.

The festival is looking for four Durban poets to be part of the festival as curtain raisers. The programme gives the city’s poets the opportunity to showcase their work to audiences at the country’s premier poetry festival. Many poets performing in this space have gone on to be invited as festival participants in Poetry Africa and other platforms in subsequent years.

Participants will be required to audition original works with a five minute limit. Auditions will be at The Centre for Creative Arts (University of KwaZulu-Natal

Howard College Campus) on 14 and 15 September. Audition slots will be assigned by booking. To book an audition time, send an email with your full name and contact details with Poetry Africa Prelude Auditions in the subject title to poetryafrica@cca-ukzn.co.za.
