Former ANCYL Secretary General dies

The sadden departure of comrade Magaqa leaves a staggering blow to the African National Congress.

MESSAGES of condolences continue to pour in for former ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa. The African National Congress in the Province said it was deeply saddened and shocked by the unexpected death of Magaqa.

Mdumiseni Ntuli, Provincial Spokesperson said: “The sudden departure of comrade Magaqa leaves a staggering blow to the African National Congress and will be mostly intensely felt by his comrades at the Umzimkhulu Local Municipality, where he served in EXCO and as a Chairperson of the Governance Portfolio Committee. He fell in the cause of service to his people which he did without any demand for recognition nor expecting material rewards. We accept with the greatest pain and sorrow the dictates of fate that today, 4th September 2017, we have to send our heartfelt and deepest condolences to the family of comrade Sindiso Magaqa.”

Magaqa was an ANC Umzimkhulu Local Municipality PR Councillor who was allegedly recovering well at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital, from a gunshot wound sustained during an ambush in July. According to reports, at least 12 rounds were fired into the car when Magaqa and and two of his councillor colleagues were ambushed outside a shop on the outskirts of the southern KwaZulu-Natal town, probably from a high-powered rifle. A week later‚ police released identikits of two people believed to have been involved in the shooting.

Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said police were also checking a tip-off that one of the two wanted men was killed after a shootout between police and a suspected a cash-in-transit heist gang in Durban last week. The second man was allegedly one of the gang members injured and taken to hospital.
