Volunteers needed to rise against hunger

Davenport Square Centre will pack 5000 meals to stop hunger.

DAVENPORT Square will take the initiative to ‘rise against hunger’ as it hosts a food packing programme on Friday, 1 September from 11am to 1pm at Ex Kathy’s Bridal shop in collaboration with Rise Against Hunger Organisation.

The aim of the programme is to get 20 volunteers to assist in packing 5000 meals in two hours.

The Stop Hunger Now initiative is a volunteer-based meal packaging programme, that coordinates the assembly-line packaging of highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables and 23 essential vitamins and minerals.

The programme is created to give dedicated individuals the opportunity to participate in a hands-on hunger relief programme, and to become educated, engaged advocates for the country’s hungry.

The events also give volunteers hands-on experience in leadership development, team-building, relationship-building, creative problem-solving, and goal-setting and achievement.

These packaged meals will be used primarily to support school feeding programmes.

Davenport Square aims to do its share in feeding those in need, and is calling on the community to help pack the food.
