Forum donates toiletries for pensioners

The community is encouraged to donate toiletries to the residents at Natal Settlers Homes on a monthly basis.

BULWER Safety and Urban Regeneration Forum (BSURF) surprised pensioners at Natal Settlers Homes with a donation of toiletries .

The donation follows the announcement ahead of Mandela Day that the forum would collection toiletries and other items for the elderly at the home.

“We decided to continue the project and have since done two smaller drops of items at the home,” said Heather Rorick of BSURF.

She said another resident had cleared out her cupboards and donated duvets, pillows and other bedding to the cause. Heather said any unwanted items would be appreciated.

“We are trying to do a drop off every month and urge the community to get involved in this community project. Even if it is one toilet roll and a bar of soap, it all adds up and can make a difference to the elderly,” she said.

Sandra Welton from Natal Settlers said the donations were much appreciated.

“These donations have really helped us bring down our monthly expenses. To add a soap or other toiletry item to your shopping basket on pay day won’t break the bank, but it will mean the world for a pensioner in need,” she said.

Sandra also encouraged people to volunteer their time at the home’s fundraising fete or go through to support the event on Saturday, 2 September.
