Savages Athletic Club which was was formed in 1950, has a long history of organising road races. The club has been responsible for organising the Savages Challenge race every year for approximately 30 years.

Two years ago, with the advent of talks of building a Soccer Academy at the cycle track by the Stables, Savages relocated to Morningside Sports Club and the route for the race now starts at Morningside Primary School, meanders through Burman Bush, through the areas of Stamford Hill, Windermere, Florida Road precinct and back to the finish at Morningside Primary School.

In 2016, the Florida Road UIP invited the club to change the race route to include Florida Road and with its help, Metro Police approved the change to the route. Organisers will apply to Metro Police to include Florida Road in the route again this year and do not expect any problems.

The 10km is one lap and the 21km will be a redo of the 10km loop plus an additional 1.1km.

Anyone can enter the race, whether they want to walk it or run it. Participants will be able to see parts of Durban they may never have seen before.. R5 of each race entry fee will be donated to CHOC. For the community who do not run, go along and support the athletes.
