Woman trapped in vehicle in Berea collision

While fire fighters used the jaws of life to free the woman, advanced life support paramedics worked to stabilise her inside the vehicle.

NINETEEN people were injured after a taxi and a car collided at the intersection of King Dinuzulu (Berea) Road and Botanic Gardens Road in Berea on Sunday evening.

According to Ceron Lennox from Rescue Care Paramedics, the taxi had veered off the road after the collision and crashed into a wall.

“One front seat passenger was severely entrapped in the wreckage and the Durban Fire Department was called to assist,” she said.

While fire fighters used the jaws of life to free the woman, advanced life support paramedics worked to stabilise her inside the vehicle.

Once freed, the woman was extricated from the wreckage and transported to hospital. Eighteen other patients had suffered various injuries and were stabilised before being transported to hospital.

“The exact cause of the collision is unknown, however SAPS were on scene and will be investigating further,” she said.
