Yale University Glee Club in concert with KZNPO

The KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra returns to the Durban Playhouse Opera for its four week Winter Symphony Season of sublime world class music from 1 until 22 June 2017.

MUSIC lovers are in for a treat when the world acclaimed 80-strong Yale University Glee Club from the USA joins forces with the KZN Philharmonic and soloists to perform Beethoven’s splendid Mass in C major, Op 86 to open the KZN Philharmonic Winter Concert Season today (Thursday) at the Playhouse Opera.

The season opens with a very special bumper concert.

The acclaimed Yale University Glee Club Choir from the USA led by Dr Jeffrey Douma, professor of conducting at the Yale School of Music will be doing a whistle-stop visit to Durban as part of an extensive nation-wide SA tour.

The Yale Glee Club is an 80-voice chorus of undergraduate women and men based at Yale University, and currently in its 155th season. It is one of the world’s most travelled collegiate choruses, having appeared before enthusiastic audiences in every major US city and abroad on six continents. The Yale Glee Club will be joined by four vocalist soloists: Nozuko Teto (soprano), Violina Anguelov (mezzo-soprano), Wayne Mkhize (tenor) and Mthunzi Nokubeka (baritone).

Also on the programme will be Belgian pianist Liebrecht Vanbeckenvoort a laureate of the prestigious Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition and a celebrate Steinway artist, who takes the spotlight as the season’s first soloist.

The KZN Philharmonic continues its primary mission of bringing excellence in music making to the province of KZN. The Winter Season features top South African and international musicians in an eclectic programme of amazing music.
